Attendance
Estrella High School has a ZERO ABSENCE POLICY and operates on a 36 and 37 day block schedule. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of three classes each block. Additional classes are approved by Administration on a case by case basis.
Students are required to be present every day. If a student misses a period, he/she must flex (make-up) the time and work that he/she has missed. The day must be flexed in the same week the class was missed.
Students are only allowed to flex four class periods per class. On the fifth day of absence, students will not receive credit for each class that has exceeded the four absence rule.
Failure to flex all absences during the block will result in a failing mark for each class with outstanding unflexed absences.

Tardy Policy
Students are considered tardy once the bell has signaled the start of class. During 1st and 4th periods, students are considered late during the first ten minutes of and will not be admitted into class after that point without accruing an absence for that period. Students who are tardy will not receive a tardy slip unless lateness is due to the school bus, the student was detained, or the tardy is approved and excused by an administrator. For every three tardy marks accrued by a student, he/she must serve a Friday detention for one period. Failure to serve detention will result in consequences outlined in the Discipline Plan which can be found in the Student Agenda. | Medical and Bereavement Policy
In some cases, modifications will be made for health and bereavement issues through an Administrator. Medical/Bereavement issues do not count against the four day absence policy, however, except in some extreme circumstances, students must still make up time and work. Routine medical appointments and court appearances (except in rare instances) are NOT considered excusable absences. Health and bereavement falls into the following areas: 1. Death in the immediate family (a parent/guardian, grandparent, or sibling only) 2. Illness with medical documentation 3. Prior arrangements between the administrative team and the family before the absences occur. |
