On Friday August 24, the Sidewinders met Summit High School on the field for the first football game of the season. And what a first game it was! Sidewinders won with a 30 point lead ending the game at 36 - 6. Teachers and staff came from a day long meeting to see the team play at home field.
The season just started but if this is any indicator, we should be looking forward to a great year! Congratulations, Sidewinders on your first win!
This Friday August 24, the school will be closed for a staff professional development day. Students who need to flex absences will be required to flex the following Friday to receive full credit for work missed on the day of absence.
Please be aware this means the entire school will be closed down including the main office. If you have any questions prior to Friday, please feel free to contact the main office at 623-932-6562.
This week is Spirit Week to show support for the Football team's first game on Friday.
Tuesday is Twin Day, Wednesday is College day, and Thursday is Sidewinder Pride Day. Prizes will be given for the best set of twins.
On Friday, continue that show of support by heading out to see the Sidewinders play. Look at the calendar for details. We hope to see you there!
The first thought on the many minds of students who do not need to flex on Friday is to sleep in or hang out with friends. But for 14 students, this Friday was an opportunity to find treasure. The first Friday of every block is reserved by the Language Arts department to take students to used book stores like Bookman's and Half Priced Books.
On this trip, Mrs. Manning, Ms. Barajas, Mrs. Hatanaka, and Ms. Johnson joined the students in the hopes of inspiring them to find books to read simply for the sake of reading. This trip also served to give the Language Arts teachers a chance to adopt books and extend the classroom library to further encourage students to read for enjoyment.
Missed out on this trip? No problem! The bookstore tour will take place the first Friday of every block. All students are welcome to join no matter if they are currently enrolled in an English class or not. Students who owe flex time may be given flex credit by teachers if all assignments have been completed prior to the trip.
The first week for students ended with excited teachers and students, full classrooms, and a lot of new faces. Estrella High School is still enrolling, however morning session is full so new enrollees will be placed into evening courses. Students who attend evening courses and maintain grades and attendance will be given first priority to morning classes in Block 2 if there are openings.
Students who enroll late are required to come on at least one Friday Flex to catch up on missed assignments. It's not too late to be a part of the Estrella High School family!
Estrella High School is always needing donations of school supplies. Got some extra folders laying around that need a good home? Maybe you found some boxes of pencils and erasers you won't be using all of. We all know school budgets have been cut everywhere, and Estrella High School is no exception. Help us out by donating any materials or picking up a few extras when shopping for your own supplies. Not only will you be helping the school, but you will also be helping any students who are unable to afford supplies on their own.
Our school exists and functions at its best when everyone comes together to help each other. Contact the main office at 623-932-6562 if you have any questions about what supplies are needed most. Any help is appreciated!
All returning students who did not come to the Back-to-School meetings need to come to the main office between 7:30 am to 5:00 pm next week in order to fill out required forms, take an ID picture, and pay the activity fee. Once all requirements have been satisfied, you will receive your schedule. All paperwork must be completed before you may attend classes.
Contact the main office at 623-932-6562 for questions.
Estrella High School is now enrolling for the 2012 - 2013 school year!
