Estrella High School uses an innovative block scheduling program that breaks each school year into four nine-week blocks. During each block, students take and complete three or more classes, based on the following schedule:
1st hour: 8:00am - 9:48am
2nd hour: 9:52am - 11:40am
3rd hour: 12:05pm - 1:53pm
4th hour: 1:57pm - 3:42pm
Each class meets four days a week for 1 hour and 48 minutes, which enables students to complete one semester of coursework in each course per nine-week block. Fridays are flexible days which give students the opportunity for extra school activities and individual tutoring, as teachers are not available during regular class times. This block schedule accelerates the graduation process and allows students to earn more credits in a shorter amount of time. It also gives students who have fallen behind on academic credits the opportunity to take additional courses in order to catch up.
